Safety data sheet

• Prevents growths from blocking fuel filters and fuel lines.
• Prevents bacteria from causing corrosion in fuel tanks.
• Carries through in the fuel to treat all systems downstream.
• Preserves the fuel for long term storage.

RECOMMENDED TREATMENT USE

• To clean fouled systems. Add 400mls Algex 45-90 per 1,000 litres of fuel (1 litre Algex per 2,500 litres of fuel).
• To preserve fuel. Add 100mls Algex 45-90 per 1,000litres of fuel (1 litre Algex per 10,000 litres of fuel).

For maximum effect; first remove any water moisture from the fuel tank by either pumping the bottom of the tank or in the case of equipment; draining the bottom of the fuel tank.

Add Algex 45-90 using the recommended treatment rate just prior to filling the tank with fuel, or re-circulate the system for several hours to ensure thorough blending of the fuel and Algex 45-90. Allow to stand for 24 hours if possible. Remove any dead growth from the bottom of the fuel tank to eliminate further filter blockage.

Water bottoms treated with Algex 45-90 should not be dumped to natural water ways and some sewer systems may require the water to be deactivated before disposal. Deactivate the water by adding 5mls of a 10% sodium bisulphate solution per litre of water.

TESTING FOR FUEL ALGAE GROWTH

Add 150mls of suspect fuel to a clean empty glass bottle (pint milk bottle for example) and then add 150mls of water. Check the fuel for coloration and particle growth. Any algal growth will be present at the inter-phase between the water and the fuel. Allow the fuel and water to sit for a period of five days. If growth multiplies rapidly, the fuel will darken and particles of growth will become apparent in both the fuel and water.

Mature growth usually resembles pieces of black rubber. Inspect fuel filters at maintenance change intervals. Pull the fuel filter apart and inspect for evidence of algal growth. If infected wash several times with diesel fuel.
